COVENTRY PRAISE - Saturday 8th September 2007 at 7.30pm at Coventry Cathedral. This is a celebration of all of the Christian communities of Coventry. So often, much is made of gatherings of other faith communities, and the roots of Christianity in Coventry are well known, and so the present and future witness to Christ in our city is important. This event at the Cathedral will be an evening of prayer and praise, open to all, and it would be good if as many parishioners as possible could attend, as HOPE 2008 is launched – a national project for 2008, showing Christianity in action. Guest Speaker will be Steve Chalke. www.hope08.com
Coventry Intercultural Mass – Sunday 9th September at 5.30pm at St John Fisher Church, Tiverton Road, Wyken. People are asked – where possible – to dress in national costume, to bring some food representing their country, and to celebrate the cultural diversity by many Catholics in our city. If you would like to be involved in a particular way in this Mass, please let us know.
Dowry of Mary Pilgrimage to Walsingham – Sunday 9th September – Mass at 1pm. Main celebrant: Bishop Michael Evans.
Journey in Faith – The ‘Talks on the Catholic Faith’ have taken place jointly with St John Vianney parish over the past two years, and have been attended by longstanding parishioners, by people married to Catholics and interested to hear more about the Church’s teachings, and by those who are seeking to embrace the Catholic Faith. Everybody is welcome, but perhaps somebody you know attending these talks might require an invitation from you, or even your encouragement in coming with them. They will begin again soon, and as the title suggests, it is a Journey, an experience of growing in faith together. Think about how that invitation you make to somebody who is not a Catholic, or who needs some direction in their life could affect them, and possibly change their life.
Mr Cliff Jones who has been coming to our church for many years will be received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church on Thursday 4th October at the 7pm Mass, here in our church. All parishioners are welcome to share in this special celebration.
World Youth Day 2008 – This is a festival of half a million young Catholic adults, taking place in Sydney, Australia in July 2008. Following an open invitation to young people of our parish, 10 young people are going to represent the parish at this event. World Youth Days were an initiative of Pope John Paul II and have been continued by Pope Benedict. The families of those going are paying towards the trip, and there are other fundraising ventures being planned. Today, the young people involved will be offering to wash cars during the three Sunday Masses. Fr Timothy and a number of parishioners will be running the Coventry Half Marathon in October, also raising money towards this trip. A gentle reminder to anybody planning to do the run that they need to register for it asap at www.ladygodiva-halfmarathon.co.uk/. Any parishioners whose work situation agrees to match charity sponsorship is asked to make themselves known, as this event is organised through the diocese which is a Charitable Trust.
