THIS SUNDAY:  Second Sunday of the Year also celebrated as Day of Prayer for Peace. In an uncertain world where there are over 100 conflicts, where hatred and oppression divide peoples and nations the need and desire for peace is great. Through education, which bring understanding, let us pray for an end to all division and injustice.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: Holy Communion: For children not at St. Thomas More School, classes in preparation for First Holy Communion will begin this Saturday, 14th January from 9.00am-10.00am in the JP11 Room. Confirmation: Instruction sessions every Sunday from 5.00pm in the JP11 Room.

DEANERY NEWS: The Archbishop has appointed Fr. Harry Curtis as the new Parish Priest of St. Joseph the Worker, Canley and also as Chaplain to the University of Warwick. We shall welcome Fr. Harry at the end of the month. The Archbishop will be sending a ‘pastoral letter’ in February drawing our attention to need for parishes and priests to cooperate together. To date the Deanery discussion have been very positive in looking at ways to work together especially focusing on the work of the ‘partnership areas’ although there may be some need for change and restructuring

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: Unity Week begins on Wednesday, 18th Jan with a service in all our local churches. St. Thomas More will host the prayer session on Saturday, 21st Jan, with Mass at 9.00am followed by Breakfast ending with a service of prayer. NEWMAN ASSOCIATION Unity Service:  to be held on Saturday 21st January at 1.00 p.m. in the Chapel of Unity at Coventry Cathedral during Christian Unity Week.  Lecture on Tuesday 24th January:  Rev Richard Finn O.P. will speak on “Early Christian Asceticism and its Contemporary Relevance”.  Fr Finn is a Dominican from Blackfriars, Oxford.

CATHOLIC PARLIAMENTARY AND PUBLIC POLICY INTERNSHIPS; The Catholics Bishops Conference has organised Parliamentary and Public Policy Internships for recently graduated Catholics.  This year we are looking to offer 8 internships to run from September 2012 - July 2013 and include accommodation and subsistence allowances.
